- On behalf of our client, we are currently looking for a Live-out Butler to support the House Manager in the smooth running of the House.
It’s a permanent full-time position.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attend daily briefing at 10am every morning and be issued with daily checklist.
AM BUTLER:
- Open house at 7.30am and go through checklists.
- Ensure that the morning newspapers are set out.
- Check food and beverage stocks of all three pantries.
- Set up breakfast and lunch trays each day.
AM – PM BUTLER:
- Ensure that breakfast and lunch orders are passed onto the chef, and that food is given to the appropriate valet.
- Set up the dining table for formal dinners on a daily basis (AM Butler).
- Prepare for any visitors and /or afternoon teas.
- Receive and /or supervise the reception of visitors and guests.
- Ensure air conditioning is set at the appropriate temperature.
- Ensure that music is turned on at 5pm at the set volume level.
- Change light-bulbs.
- Polish brass and silver.
- Maintain cleaning levels above 6ft, as instructed by the House Manager.
- Adhere to all Health and safety requirements in all duties. (e.g.: when using ladders, polishing silver etc.).
- Carry out Fire Marshal duties.
- Polish wooden floors as instructed by House Manager.
- Be available when family members depart and arrive.
- Assist the house manager in planning, set up and preparation of all house functions.
- Set-up of all chocolates, nuts, and macaroons throughout the various rooms.
- Ensure that HRH fruit is up-to the highest standard before putting into the pantry.
- Serve the formal dinner every evening.
- Carry out stock takes of silver, china and glass on a weekly basis.
- Ensure that the presentation of the table linen in immaculate.
- Set up the pantries.
- Ensure the meticulous care of all items including silver, china and glass.
- Report breakages to the House Manager and enter these into the breakages book with witnesses present.
- Check off deliveries, e.g. dry cleaning, household products and any items coming into the house.
- Document any items arriving or leaving the house in the logbook.
- Train / coach and supervise temporary butlers.
- Assist with the Principal’svalet duties, in the absence of the valet.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and EXPERIENCE:
The job requires:
- excellent presentation, impeccable grooming and personal hygiene.
- in depth knowledge of etiquette protocol with family and visitors.
- previous experience in a similar butler role.
- broad knowledge of household items and their care.
- excellent interpersonal and communication skills .
- flexibility in terms of shift finish times which will be in accordance with the Family’s requirements.
- Work together with the staff team and carry out all duties required, whether or not they correspond with the job title or any list of duties.
- adhere to all Health and Safety requirements in all duties.
- attend daily briefing.
- in depth knowledge of etiquette protocol with family and visitors.
- responsibility for deep cleaning and annual spring clean.
- flexibility in terms of shift finish times which will be in accordance with the Family’s requirements.
- carry out duties on daily duty checklist.

The salary is up to 35K gross per year.
Unless otherwise specified a minimum of 2 years relevant experience is required to receive the advertised rate of pay
