- Description
- Nanny, Tavistock
On behalf of our client we are looking for a Nanny/Garden help to work for a warm and friendly family living on a beautiful small holding on the edge of Dartmoor - with option to live on site in separate studio accommodation.
The family is a couple and a two years old boy. They are looking to expand the family soon.
They’re looking for a kind, gentle, relaxed person, who is organised and efficient, has good initiative and a natural enjoyment of engaging with children and babies. Also an enthusiastic and confident person, with an interest in wildlife,
animals and outdoor play.
They host a toddler group here once a week and will soon be setting up a forest school club.
Reliability and commitment is key, as they would very much like for someone to feel like part of the family by the time the next one comes along.
The farm is set in a river valley on the edge of Dartmoor, is extremely beautiful and fairly wild, though they are only 4 miles from Tavistock. They keep animals (a pony, sheep, chickens, geese, pigs, ducks and goats) and have a lovely big gentle dog.
They are looking for someone who is happy to ‘muck in’ and support, with some early mornings, evenings and weekend help along with accompanying us on holidays or on trips, as required.
There’s a fairly lively atmosphere in this rural wilderness - 3 other people work with them in the house, 4 people work in the gardens, on the land and with the animals and there are 4 families living across the 3 farms.
As there is a lot going on here, so there are opportunities to get involved with other tasks or projects as part of the role depending on your skills, experience and interests.

- Taking care of more children for short times when visiting

- Early morning or night time support for general respite
Related administration and organisation:
- Packing bags, washing and putting clothes away

- Managing travel or driving and considering baby’s needs and routine
Necessary skills and experience:
- Min 3 years childcare experience
- A basic understanding of the principles of Attachment parenting
- Current DBS check
- Fluent in English
- Driving with full licence
Gardening Responsibilities:
- Digging, weeding, planting and harvesting the extensive growing areas
- Grounds work such as sweeping, clearing, lawn mowing and light landscaping
Necessary Skills:
- Basic knowledge of plants
- Enjoyment of working outdoors in Dartmoor
- Ability to safely use equipment such as lawnmower, pressure washer, strimmer and hand tools
- Ability to follow instructions and work well as part of a team
Salary: Up to £14 per hour depending on experience. Initially 4hrs nannying and 4 hrs gardening, with nannying hours increasing within a year minimum.
Unless otherwise specified a minimum of 2 years relevant experience is required to receive the advertised rate of pay
